Workshop on discovery and documentation of medicinal traditional knowledge organized by National Innovation Foundation and Forest & Climate Change Department.

Chhattisgarh (Dantewada) Om Prakash Singh. A one-day workshop on discovery and documentation of specific medicinal traditional knowledge was organized by the National Innovation Foundation -India, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in collaboration with the Forest and Climate Change Department, Dantewada, Government of Chhattisgarh at Forest Depot, Dantewada. 



This program was coordinated with the special cooperation of Dantewada Divisional Forest Officer Sandeep Balaga and Research Officer of National Innovation Foundation Bhubaneshwar, Rahul Prakash. National Innovation Foundation East India  Coordinator and Senior Innovation Officer Dr. 



Vivek Kumar, connecting through video conference and addressed the people present in the workshop, said that the people who work and serve at the grassroot level with traditional knowledge, NIF-India has confirmed their knowledge. It reaches the government for recognition and gets award by the honourable President of India.



 

Research Officer, National Innovation Foundation Bhubaneswar Rahul Prakash conducted the workshop and gave training on collection and documentation of medicinal species of plants. The photo exhibition of different types of trees, plants, herbs was inspected by Divisional Forest Officer Dantewada Sandeep Balaga and gave guidance to the general public to organize various programs like Herbal Healers Conference in Dantewada district. Ayurvedic expert Dr. JD Panda and Deputy Forest Ranger Dantewada K Raju said that the government should plan to plant more medicinal plants and take the knowledge provided by traditional healers to the public and preserve and store it along with documentation.



 

In the workshop, teacher of Aastha Vidya Mandir Jawanga and Director of Green Care Society India Amujuri Bishwanath said that the traditional knowledge of forest produce medicinal plants and herbs made by the practice of obtaining patent rights to the medicines and documenting them reached the government in the village. Herbal healers should get the help of local teachers and educated youth for documentation of collected species. Students should participate in plant collection program for practical examination as per their curriculum. Maliguda's senior herbal healer Lavchand Nag requested the government and administration to conserve medicinal plants and plant more saplings. Swami Prem Swaroopanand of Gumargunda Ashram shared about local traditional knowledge of herbs available in Dantewada and Bastar region. National Innovation Foundation associates Jadav Chandra Jani and many herbal healers from Barsoor, Katekalyan, Badegudra, Hiranar, Kuakonda, Gumragunda, Dantewada, environmentalists, students and forest department employees were present in this workshop.
